When a Tree Needs to be Removed
Not every tree with a flaw needs to be removed, but certain signs are worth taking seriously enough to call for a look.
- A sudden lean, especially with cracked or heaving soil on the opposite side, which usually means the root system is failing
- Large dead limbs in the upper canopy that could fall without warning, sometimes called widow-makers
- Fungal growth or mushrooms at the base, often a sign of internal decay that’s been developing for years longer than it’s been visible
- Deep cracks in the trunk or a hollow sound when tapped, both signs the wood inside isn’t as sound as it looks from outside
- Storm damage severe enough that the tree’s structure is compromised, even if the canopy still looks mostly intact
How We Approach a Removal Project
On open lots with a clear drop zone, a standard directional fell handles most jobs efficiently. On tighter properties, near a house or with limited access, we work the tree down in sections instead, cutting and lowering piece by piece rather than trying to drop the whole tree at once. For the largest, most hazardous, or most awkwardly positioned trees, we bring in crane-assisted removal, lifting sections clear of the house or structure rather than dropping them through the canopy and hoping for the best.
Our Equipment
Grapple saws, grapple trucks, mini-loaders, and knucklebooms, sized to the tree and the site. We own this equipment rather than renting it job to job, which means it’s maintained and ready rather than dependent on what happens to be available. Yard mats protect your lawn and driveway on every job where heavy equipment crosses them.
What’s Included
Cutting, processing, and hauling of the tree, a stump cut close to grade, and general cleanup of the immediate work area. Stump grinding, hauling of debris beyond the standard scope, and any restoration work are identified separately in your written estimate, so there’s no confusion about what the quoted price covers.
